Seismic Musings

We are not okay. As a nation, we have been bleeding truth, bleeding trust, bleeding any shared sense of reality, and for too many of us the pain is palpable. What the United-for-now States of America has gone through this year isn’t just another phase. We the People have allowed criminality to become a brand. We have allowed pardons of heinous convicted felons to turn into fundraising tools. We have allowed bastardization of the rule of law into protecting those with power irregardless of who or how many get hurt and whether justice is the outcome.

Donald Trump isn’t a symptom. He is the culmination of a GOP that is untethered from anything but loyalty to one man. That’s the test for an entire political party. Not policy, not security, not even lower taxes; if you aren’t parroting and defending and somehow enriching Trump, you are not welcome in the Republican Party. Which is insane. Even more insane, Trump is the product of every unchecked lie, every racist dog whistle, every horrific ruling (Citizens United, Dobbs, and Holder come to mind), every “it can’t happen here” we convinced ourselves of.

It has become cliche to say that democracy isn’t a given. But it’s still the truth. One of the few truths left that we can all agree on. So if we want this country to get back to where it was before 2025, or even continue at all as a Constitutional Republic, we, you and I, have to defend it. That takes real courage. Maybe even real sacrifice.
The kind that costs you something.

What we're facing now is not a political opponent or a political party. It is a movement rooted in vengeance, delusion, and willful ignorance. Here’s the scariest part: it has no shame. None. The filth that spews from Miller, the inhumanity that Noem and Hegseth direct, the soul-crushingly nasty tweets of Trump, they do these with pride. And it makes their MAGA faithful proud.

Every institution we took for granted from the press to the courts to the Ivy Leagues to the ballot box is being mauled in plain sight. And millions are cheering it on not because they want a better America, but because they want to feel powerful while it burns.

So get ready for the fight of our lives next year. Because the America we’ve known; the America we’ve loved; the America we’d assumed our children would live in, is either going to live or die next year. All the marbles.

Remember, this country does NOT belong to Donald Trump. It does NOT belong to his cult. It does NOT belong to billionaires, grifters, or conspiracy theorists. It belongs to all of us equally. The only way we lose it is if we hand it over willingly.

And here’s what’s great. You don't have to be a political expert to speak up. You don't need a platform or a degree. You just need a voice and the willingness to use it. History is written by those who refused to stay quiet when it counted. Every person who resisted something terrible made a choice to act, even when it was unpopular, even when it was hard. Especially when it was unpopular. And hard.

Please do something. Anything. Speak out. Sign up. Get involved. America is damn sure worth saving. And saving a country is not a spectator sport. You can’t just show up at the polls next November and think you’ve made a difference. Get out there. Give. Give until it hurts a little.

On behalf of Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and all the people who fought for this country, thank you.
