Seismic Musings

I don’t know who tipped her off or how she found out but my wife, Deana, confronted me yesterday regarding the execution of the actual Fred Schott four years ago and the clone that she has been living with for all this time. I assured her that she must be as delusional as the leader of the free world, but even if she were not that I am an upgrade. There are not that many sequels that improve upon the original. What come to mind are The Empire Strikes Back and The Godfather Part 2. I was about to mention Terminator 2: Judgment Day but I thought that would freak her out.

I think she was toying with me when she and her friend said that we should pretend to be famous classical composers and that she would be Mozart and her friend would be Beethoven. I didn’t fall for the bait. Obviously, I was programmed to be smarter than that.

In all seriousness, where in the hell is the press? Our country is uncontrovertibly being led by delusional, lying, bigoted, hypocritical, and morally bankrupt people who are openly and publicly attacking the weakest and poorest of us. Where is the headline “OUR PRESIDENT IS DELUSIONAL.” Where is the headline “SHOULDN’T CONGRESS BE DEMANDING A PSYCHIATRIC WORK-UP.” Where is the headline “BEATING UP ON THE POOR AND HALF OF THEIR VOTERS THE GOP DOESN’T HAVE THE BALLS TO IMPLEMENT IT UNTIL THE NEXT ADMINISTRATION.”

In any other era, #signalgate would have involved immediate terminations, including of Pete Hegseth, followed by intensive congressional investigations. In any other era, a fraudulent citing of articles and studies would have involved immediate terminations, including of Robert Kennedy, Jr., followed by intensive congressional investigations. In any other era, there would be an outcry over the way that Zelensky was treated because regardless of who in the Trump administration misuses the phrase “tip of the spear.,” the actual tip of democracy’s spear right now is Ukraine. In any other era, millions of Medicaid recipients would be marching on D.C.

And yet, the press continues to treat this like normal times and normal behavior for government officials. They use politically correct headlines in describing politically insane actions and blatantly unconstitutional statements and policies. (And that’s not even including all of the financial corruption undoubtedly taking place.) From the Senate making a mockery of their advise and consent requirements on Cabinet nominees, to vehement attacks on Article III courts, to trampling on freedom of speech and the right to due process, the press should be hounding this administration with bold and accurate headlines. I understand they’re scared because, for the first time in our lifetimes, simply disagreeing with anything that a president says causes a rabid response of vitriol, along with threats of never-ending lawsuits. But dammit that’s the role that the press is expected to take and why freedom of the press was put in the very first amendment.

When the reckoning occurs, the co-conspirators in the shredding of our democracy, of our social fabric, and of our Constitution will include not only Congress but also the mainstream media. Political correctness does not work in a time when government is run by outlaws who openly defy court orders while refuting our Constitution and our laws. Political correctness does not work when the destruction of democracy is almost at third base and heading for our homes.
